Stefan Glerum

Amsterdam-based illustrator Stefan Glerum has a distinct style that is recognised and respected across the world, and his work is inspired by early 20th Century movements such as Art Deco, Bauhaus, Italian Futurism and Russian Constructivism, which he combines with popular themes, executed in a hand drawn style reminiscent of the clear line. 

His latest project revolved around creating illustrations for two stained glass facades reaching up to 60 feet for a new residential project in Amsterdam by housing corporation Ymere. The complex is designed by Heren 5 Architects, the stained glass is fabricated by Atelier Schmit.

Rosemarie Fiore's Firework Paintings

Rosemarie Fiore  (b. 1972, New York, United States) lives and works in Bronx, NY.  She typically produces artwork out of the actions of mechanisms.  She converts popular technology such as lawn mowers, cars, waffle irons, floor polishers, pinball machines, fireworks and amusement park rides into painting machines. How cool is that!

Teo Pirisi

Teo Pirisi, aka Moneyless, is an Italian-born artist, who has made the country his home since his birth in 1980. The artist grew up as a member of the 90’s graffiti scene in Tuscany, which he attributes to the development of his artistic identity. Pirisi further devolped his signature geometric style through his studies at Multimedia and Communication Design at Carrara Fine Art Academy and Isia in Florence, respectively.

By combining his graffiti and fine art backgrounds, the artist has been able to develop a unique style of geometric art.

French Artist Fanette G using a mix of photography and art installation (no photoshop involved!) to create these optical illusions. Painted on abandoned buildings and later photographed from different angles to trick your eye into thinking those are 3D object floating in the room, uses a modern-art-meets-vintage-interiors approach.

‘Still or Sparkling’ Exhibition

‘Still or Sparkling’ (9 – 25 June 2011) followed up on the two previous exhibitions ‘Fired Up’ (10 – 25 February 2011) and ‘Down to Earth’ (1 – 21 April 2011). It explored traditional elements which link all these exhibitions. ‘‘Still or Sparkling’ explores a water themed exhibition; water in its mercurial beauty was the starting point for the artists as they examine the intuitive and the emotional qualities associated with water and the special place it was believed to inhabit between air and earth in classical symbolism. The ‘five elements’ or the ‘five great’ in ascending order of power, have always been Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Void.

Zimoun

Zimoun, an artist from Switzerland, uses sound in order to create magic. In his installations sound is used as an architectural element, it defines space and it makes the spectator be a part of a totally unique experience. Zimoun is a big sound lover, passionate about exploring its possibilities. In this quest he uses simple element cardboard boxes, cotton balls, plastic bags, filler wire, motors and ventilators that when combined in the correct way they form an original orchestra of sounds. These sounds all at once define space, interacting with it as well as with the spectator.

Karen Ingham

Artist Karen Ingham’s love for insects has produced a series of dresses designed to aid shrinking populations of bees and other pollinators, a growing environmental crisis that threatens our global food system. Featuring electron-microscopy images of pollen, Ingham’s “Pollinator Frocks” are treated with a nectar-like sugar solution that attracts and nourishes bees and their brethren. She has created outfits for separate occasions: day-wear to draw bees and butterflies and evening-wear for nocturnal critters such as moths.

Nienke Klunder

Nienke Klunder is an artist who offers a provocative look at modern American popular culture. Born in California and raised in the Netherlands, Klunder has used her role as both European and American citizen in providing an outsider/insider stance on pop culture, giving her audience a one-of-a-kind perspective on women and their roles in society. Known for working in series and sequences (what she calls “visual essays”), Nienke Klunder tells stories in a cinematic fashion with her photographs. She also creates sculptures and drawings that are sprinkled into her exhibitions to fully communicate her stories.

li xiaofeng is beijing artist who creates clothing piece made from traditional chinese ceramics.

For the latest reimagining of Lacoste's iconic polo shirt, the company turned to Xiaofeng, The online version of Wallpaper magazine has a video of the artist who takes us through the painstaking process of firing new porcelain, painting them and then further adorning them with classical Chinese motifs, as well as the Lacoste croc logo. In all 317 pieces were used to make his on polo, which took him three months to make.

David Shrigley

Artist David Shrigley, based in Glasgow, is probably best known for his drawings and cartoons, which have been highly influential, particularly on illustration. He's also done music videos for Blur and Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and been involved in a wide range of other art projects. There's lots of examples of his work on his website, including this which has made me smile for 14 years.

Brian Dettmer

Brian Dettmer is an American artist who uses books to create art, cutting into the pages to use the illustrations to make 3D pieces. His home page is here and his Flickr space is here. Mark Demsteader

Mark Demsteader was born in 1963 in Manchester where he still lives and works. He studied foundation at Rochdale college and Oldham college, but he is largely self taught having spent many years studying the figure at life drawing classes and developing a unique style through close observation of the human form. In recent years Mark`s reputation has flourished, such that he has become one of the most popular figurative artists working in Britain today. He has recently teamed up with the fashion label Irwin & Jordan to produce two silk-jersey dresses which feature his beautiful illustrations.

Peter Phillips

Peter Phillips is one of the preeminent British Pop Artists of our time. His work ranges from oils on canvas to multi-media compositions and collages. Vibrant in color and filled with iconography of images drawn from daily life, Peter's work appeals to the spectator's memory, elevates curiosity and awakens their minds to the world around them.

As one of the originators of Pop Art, Peter got his start at the Royal College of Arts with his fellow students David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj and others of the British Pop Art Movement. When he was awarded a Harkness Fellowship he moved to New York, where he exhibited his work alongside his American counterparts Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist.
